Deepika Padukone Becomes First Indian Actor Honoured on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

In a moment being described across the trade press as historic, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has confirmed Deepika Padukone as part of its Class of 2026 for the Hollywood Walk of Fame — the first Indian actor ever selected for the honour, and only the second person of Indian origin overall after actor Sabu Dastagir received his star in 1960.

The announcement was made via livestream from Ovation Hollywood, where Padukone was named in the Motion Pictures category alongside an eclectic list of honourees including Emily Blunt, Timothée Chalamet, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, and Rami Malek. The 2026 class spans 35 names across film, television, music, live theatre, and sports entertainment, and also includes posthumous recognitions for special effects artist Carlo Rambaldi and director Tony Scott.

Padukone's journey to this recognition has been a gradual, deliberate one rather than a single breakout moment. She made her acting debut in the 2006 Kannada film Aishwarya before establishing herself as one of Hindi cinema's most bankable stars through a run of both commercially dominant and critically acclaimed roles. Her Hollywood debut came in 2017 opposite Vin Diesel in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and she has since built a global profile through appearances at Cannes and the Met Gala, a spot on TIME's 100 Most Influential People list, and inclusion in Variety's International Women's Impact Report.

Under Walk of Fame rules, selection and the physical unveiling of the star are two separate milestones — honourees are typically given up to two years from their selection date to schedule and fund the actual ceremony, after which the honour lapses if unclaimed. A date for Padukone's ceremony has not yet been announced.
